Spaces: Known Camp Bars
by Pride History Group
In the 1950-70s, the Camp world in Sydney staked out a handful of pubs in the city, Paddington and Kings Cross which tolerated or catered for ‘Camps’ in otherwise straight venues. They ranged from regular to ‘piss elegant’ to the rough. Here Dennis (Flo) Fuller remembers early venues, David Williams remembers The Taxi Club, Ian MacNeill shares memories of camp life in the 1960s and Peter Trebilco describes the camp scene in the 1950s and 60s. Rae Morris recalls the Sussex and Pfharlets Hotel, Barry Powers remembers the Montgomery Hotel and David Urquhart remembers The Rex Hotel and other venues.
