Garry Wotherspoon (1940-)

Garry Wotherspoon is an academic, writer and historian. He has written extensively on Australian gay history. In this interview, Garry talks about his university career as a way into researching and writing about gay history, his activism, his involvement with CAMP INC, and social life from the 1960s onwards. At Sydney University, Garry was instrumental in the formation of GUTS (Gay Union of Tertiary Staff) and the establishment of Australia's first and only Centre for Lesbian and Gay Research in the 1990s. History has always been the mainstay for Garry throughout his life, and as he states in his interview, 'If you can prove that you have been there, you are as legitimate as anyone else... History legitimates you.'
