Bruce Laidlaw (1943-)

Bruce Laidlaw grew up in Scotland and joined a Catholic order of Brothers. He moved to Australia with his parents in 1965 and continued his connections with the Brothers in Adelaide. Bruce was in Sydney in 1978, teaching at a Catholic school and studying at Macquarie University. He became involved with Acceptance, a gay Catholic group, and helped set up the Phone-a-Friend counselling service. In this interview, Bruce recalls his life and times with the Brothers, his involvement in the 1978 First Mardi Gras, and his work with HIV/AIDS patients in Ward 17. Bruce also talks about his time in Thailand, where he met his husband, Noi.
