Parkin, Trevor

Trevor Parkin (1944-)

Trevor came to Sydney from country NSW and was introduced to Sydney’s camp venues through a customer at work. He was offered accommodation above the Purple Onion and the interview includes a working description of the work of a dresser and part time performer at the Purple Onion and Ivy’s Birdcage. The International Telephone Exchange was a place which employed a large percentage of gay men, including Trevor, and the interview covers what it was like to work in this environment during the period of HIV/AIDS and rapid technological change.
