Ian McLean

(1943-2020)

Ian began a career as a DJ when he was 16. On his arrival in Sydney he got a gig with the Chameleons social group and continued playing music for parties, events and dances for Sydney’s social groups from the 1960s. Described by Dawn O’Donnell as her “sound man”, Ian was witness to the growth of these groups and Sydney’s activist and commercial venue scene over the years since their founding.

He was a founding member of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association and had a long association with the Pollies Club. He was part of the Three Sisters Social Group in the Blue Mountains for over three decades and was awarded life membership. He was also a long-time member of Pride History Group.
