Serving in Silence Exhibition

  • LOCAL HISTORY LOUNGE Laman Street Newcastle Australia (map)

This exhibition showcases the history of LGBTI military service in Australia since World War II. It brings together photographs, objects, and documents of current and former service personnel to explore how LGBTI Defence members navigated their lives in the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army, and Royal Australian Air Force. The exhibition has already had successful showings in Sydney and Melbourne. Shirleene Robinson (Pride History President), Noah Riseman and Graham Willett are the co-curators of the exhibition. The Newcastle exhibition has been organised by John Witte (Pride History member), the City of Newcastle and Newcastle Pride.
